Larkhill Primary School
Judo, an Olympic sport since 1964, meets every Tuesday in the Assembly Hall from 3:20 to 4:05 pm. This class is suitable for boys and girls from 5 to 11 years and is a fantastic boost for the shy and timid as well as a calming influence for the more high-spirited child.
With over 40 years experience, 5th Degree Black Belt Judo teacher Nick Lowe, who achieved British and European Champion status, has been running school judo clubs since 2000. He concentrates on low-level, high tempo activity to inspire this group. By it’s very nature judo is the ultimate in chaos, energy and dynamic movement and therefore; it is an ideal cross code sport for enhancing the development of co-ordination, alongside with learning the necessary skills to effectively work with others in a confined area.
Children are taught how to fall safely, take their opponent’s to ground and do wrestling type movements, together with some simple rules of the game.
Although discipline is a key aspect to these classes, it is by no means the only measurement used to shape and encourage a safe, but enjoyable environment.
Belt promotion exams take place twice a year, which are recognised worldwide.
